Walking down river from Kew Bridge, one passes along Strand on the Green towards the Mall. In the distance, the underground railway bridge that carries trains to Kew Gardens crosses the river. As often here, spectacular clouds hang over the view.

Oil painting on canvas board
300mm x 300mm
Unframed £130
The gardens at Chiswick House have been slowly and beautifully restored in recent years, and the new café in Portland Stone melds beautifully with the old Paladian House and monuments in the grounds. This is a painting from late summer when the ornamental grasses were at their most beguiling.

Among the many wonderful and old trees in the gardens at Chiswick House are these two fine Cedars. There were once more, but these withstood the hurricane in 1988, and benevolently accepted many years of climbing by local children, mine included. These trees are engraved in my mind’s eye from years of seeing them.

On the tip of Anglesey, the village of Penmon has a fine view across the Menai Strait onto Snowdonia. During a recent Christmas we enjoyed spectacular scenes as the weather changed almost hourly, the sun came and went and clouds moved purposefully.

This is the back of a quite well-known garage in west London, always showing magnificent sports cars. I especially like the geometric clean lines of the building

A childhood memory from the family house off the Ngong Road, near Dagoretti Corner, Nairobi. In the rainy seasons the River Kirichwa Kubwa, normally a trickle, flooded into the gardens bringing mud and wildlife not normally seen. Admittedly, the floodwater was usually red-brown, not the grey-blue as I have it here.
